The lvarez family only started making wine in the 1980s. But what they lacked in experience, they more than made up for in ambition. When they launched Bodegas Alion, next to and owned by,  the great Vega Sicilia, it was widely regarded as a turning point in the Ribera del Duero. It was modern, different, and unlike anything the region had seen before. Their namesake wine continues to excel to this day. It's an intense, rich Tempranillo that's well-stuctured from its time spent ageing in Bordeaux oak.
