Aged for 18 months in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels, the 2009 First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon has brambly blackberry and raspberry fruit on the nose with a touch of dried herbs and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with dusty tannins, fleshy black fruit and a smooth, harmonious, crowd-pleasing finish with a savoury edge. No, it is not South Africa’s greatest Cabernet, but you cannot argue with the price. Drink: 2011-2015.
